Lessons @ YAMS: Emily Hall
Percussion and Drum Lessons with Emily are specifically designed for the learning style and desires of each student. Depending on the student, the lessons can be geared towards solo, orchestral, and/or band repertoire.
Drum set instruction includes playing patterns in any style of music, fills, solos, and transcription.
All lessons can also include:
A unique aspect to lessons with Emily is that she offers the opportunity for her students to play along with other drum/percussion students, putting their skills into practice in real life musical situations. Alongside guitar teacher Bobby Hall, her students are also given the chance to play along with his guitar students.
Emily also puts together recitals for her students to participate in, sometimes in conjunction with Bobby Hall's guitar studio. This gives the students extra encouragement to practice as well as giving them the opportunity and experience to perform as soloists and/or as an ensemble member.
Emily is a recent graduate of Mercer University, with a Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion Performance. This degree includes vast playing experience and knowledge on all percussion instruments, including
as well as any and all auxiliary percussion instruments ( such as bass drum, triangle, tambourine, cymbals, bongos, congas, etc. ).
Her degree also equipped her to perform as both a soloist and ensemble member. While at Mercer, she performed on a half-hour long solo recital as well as an hour long solo recital. She was also an active performer with several different groups, among them the University Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and Percussion Ensemble, and also played drum set in the University Jazz Combo.
Other experience includes playing drum set/percussion for several opera and musical productions, with University and Church choirs, for special Church programs such as Christmas and Easter cantatas, as well as in several Church bands.
She also attended the Summer NYU Broadway Percussion Seminar, at which she participated in master classes with the percussionists who play for the Broadway musical shows - and even got to sit in the pit orchestra during a show.
Recently EMily was the drummer for the Fabrefaction Theatre Company's production of Assassins, which was rated the #1 musical production in Atlanta for 2012.
Emily's musical experience and understanding spans not only percussion specifically, but music as a whole. She has years of music theory, ear training, and music history study under her belt, as well as classes in pedagogy (the art of teaching) and musical literature. Other musical experience includes piano study, beginning at the young age of 7 and continuing through college. She also played the flute throughout middle school and high school.
This broad knowledge and experience only adds to her understanding of music in general and contributes the many musical skills she has to offer to her drum and percussion students.
Emily is also the percussion coach for the Macon Symphony Youth Orchestra, directing their percussion ensemble as well as the orchestra percussion section.
